frog graham schedule

It was only a tube of condensed milk ... but it still fueled me up Melbreak. David ran with me for the first half hour and then headed off to pick up Stephen and meet me on the other side of Skiddaw. It’s the steep-sided monster to the North of Crummock Water, quite a plateau on top and it has in fact got two summits, the South being the “proper” one. ÖTILLÖ, Breca & Rockman – finishing on the podium of many. Could I swim iron distance three times in one day? A personal inspiration to us here at WWW, we caught up with Jenny to find out how it all went, what drives her to take on such feats and what she has planned for 2019… we also went fishing for some tips on how to get started! Simple theme. It just showed me how important teamwork is in swimrun. As we approached Horse Close (this is the little wood on the shore of Buttermere), Nick peeled off to run around the lake and there was Chris as promised. In theory this should be the easiest Leg but in practice it was hell. You can unsubscribe at any time. I felt dreadful at the start of the swim, but was like a new person on the other side (although I did need help standing up!). All I needed to do was get a good team together to help me on my way. ), and not quite able to enjoy the descents, I actually preferred the climbs! Things didn’t go smoothly on the lead-up to my projected date at the end of June.
“Leadership: Important New Changes” by Stedman Graham, Curriculum & Compliance – Holding Teachers Accountable (Tym Smith), Don’t Wait! It was the next swim that broke me though, I hadn’t eaten enough, and bonked halfway through, but I was leading and sighting, so just had to keep going feeling like I was made of cold jelly. I was having to swim well to the right of my intended destination because of the bloody wind, it was incredibly draining and being unable to breath evenly took its toll. It involves over 40 miles of running/walking/crawling, 15,750 feet of ascent/descent and four open water swims. “20 Strategies for Engaging Children’s Brains”‘ by Dr. Marcia TateUse the time slider to bypass the 30 minute countdown slide. I absolutely loved the whole experience of doing a challenge like this. I said I wanted to swim but would accept Stephen’s decision. It’s obviously owes it’s title to the more famous 42-peak circuit of the Lake District (the Bob Graham Round), but is nowhere near as well-known, despite being around since 2005. We had to aim upstream and swim like mad to get across, or we’d get swept down to the safety boat waiting to catch swimmers before you got swept out to sea!

I was alone. Rydal at the end is 1.5km but, after taking on the Lakes’ two highest passes, can feel as long as the others. It’s actually faintly cairned, but it’s far from an easy descent and you really need your wits about you or you could end up getting to the bottom a bit faster than you’d want to. It might not seem like a big deal, but it’s a bit unnerving thinking that you’re going to have some big smelly bird bury its beak in the back of your head. I set Fiona off in front and tried to follow but the afternoon sun was debilitating. This was the one. After losing my way in thick reeds and suffering from severe cramps, it was time to exit the waters. I spent evenings obsessing over and planning the time schedule, and quietly recruiting support runners for company (unlike the Bob Graham where support runners carry kit, food and drink, in the Frog you are expected to be self supported). From Beck Wythop you cut through the woods and then come out on the Thornthwaite Road, then it’s a bit of a slog until you reach the foot of Barf, the first summit of Leg 2. There are still pristine lakes in Lakeland, ones that haven’t been invaded by species from elsewhere. She then sent us on our way with a firm reminder not to miss out Wandope (which is, apparently, easily done). Eventually we got through all that crap, but things then went a bit amiss when Chris announced he wasn’t feeling too good, was turning back and would see us over at the bottom of High Stile. But they told me to get a move on, otherwise I might not break 14 hours. From the very outset I felt that the key to success was making it so that the four swims – across Bassenthwaite, Crummock Water, Buttermere and Derwentwater – were just incidental obstacles along the way because, truth be told, there’s actually more feet per miles ascent in the FGR than the BGR and considerably more than long, tough fell races like the Old County Tops, so survival on the fell was going to be main thing. The Puddle Buckley is the Frog's younger sister. It took a lot out of me (probably more than I had to give at the time) and I can remember just sitting on the ground at Beck Wythop, too tired to get my wetsuit off and feeling that it was all too much. Long before anyone knew the good Lord had decided to grant Justice Ginsberg’s wish not to see Donald Trump appoint her replacement to the SCOTUS Franklin Graham, the great Protestant Minister and son of Billy Graham, had scheduled a day of prayer in DC for the 25th of September. I knew that by the end of this swim that the swim part of the challenge was mainly over.

I so enjoyed that post Frog beer!

I was immediately hooked and thought that this was something I could do, my goal there and then was to be one of the first ten people to get round.

Julie insisted that Stephen was at Otterbield Bay so we retraced out steps and found him. I’ve never been on the top spot of a podium before, but this year, I won 3 of my 3 swimruns with 3 amazing partners. There was a diving club getting ready at the side of the water, they were all in full immersion suits and looked at me like I was mad.

If you decide to have a go at the Frog Whitton then details are available here: www.frogwhitton.co.uk. But once I was upright, Rick led the way and we stormed it back into Keswick in 13 hours 47 minutes.

Lots of tourists on the summit, but we sneaked round them and bombed down the grassy line that takes you to the col where you drop off to the road and Old Brandelhow, the fell section was all but over. Finishing that same race. I hadn’t bargained on how tedious and difficult transitions are when you’re cold, wet and regularly changing from swimming kit to cycling kit. This is one of the big ones that looks so forbidding when you stare down the valley and from Buttermere, you would be forgiven for thinking it would be impossible to come down the nose via Grey Crags, however this really is the FGR route. The Frog Graham Round was created by Peter Hayes (author of the awesome book ‘Swimhiking in the Lake District and North East England’) and is a 40 mile fell run with 4 swims across Bassenthwaite, Crummock Water, Buttermere and Derwent Water. I set off from Grasmere at 5am on my Willier GTR, making reasonable time along the side of Grasmere and Rydal, through Ambleside, the first hill of the day to Troutbeck before the first major pass: Kirkstone. Buttermere is much shallower than Crummock Water and it’s the shortest swim on the round, so I didn’t have any qualms about swimming it without a wetsuit, despite my earlier experience. The great thing about the challenge is that there is no time limit (unlike the Bob Graham). I was now being forced to breath uniquely to the left and all things told, I was having a bit of a bad time. And my advice is don’t do it alone and, if you really want to enjoy it, ask Charlie to send you some cheesy peas cake! “You’re wondering which way we go up right?” I said, he said he was expecting to see a trod or something to suggest the way up! Lofty wound down his car window and said, “That was a lot better than a bloody Zoom call!”. I should point out that the swim across Derwentwater is not as straightforward as you might think.
Thanks for that. Perhaps that’s an understatement, because I was crossing everything that would cross, throwing salt into corners, muttering incantations and praying to my forefathers that this was going to go well. For fell runners, the running is perfectly do-able, it’s no-where near the distance or ascent of the Bob Graham, so as long as you are capable of the swims, even if you’re a steady swimmer, it’s an enjoyable challenge. Unlike the Frog Graham, where the average swim is about 500m, the swims on the Frog Whitton are significantly longer with Ulswater some 3.1km, Derwent 3.4km and Crummock 2km. Everyone with me knew the ground intimately and we had no problems hitting the summit and then swiftly finding the trod off down to Carlside.

Theme images by, Auld Lang Syne fell race, 31 December 2018, Carol Morgan and Myself on an FGR Recce (High Stile), Rannerdale Knotts - the View From Low Ling Crag. ... arriving slightly ahead of schedule. carrying their own gear). I love the physical challenge and the journey through mountains or coast paths, wherever the race happens to be.

A friend of mine, Dave Murray, was one of the first British pairs to race Otillo back in 2008, and he just raved about the experience. I feel massively privileged to have been able to stand on these famous steps for a second time, it’s something very special and I was overwhelmed;  the Frog Graham Round had consumed me for most of the preceding months and I was literally beaming from ear to ear, I’d never been sure I could get round this monster – how could anyone? Julie had thoroughly recce'd the route and I was confident that she would not lead me astray.
