the mandalorian episode 8 recap
Mando and co. try and fail to escape through a vent to the sewers, which is sealed shut, but are given a shot to fight back as IG-11 speeds through the town on the bike with The Child on his back, shooting down every trooper he comes across along the way. His parents were killed in a Separatist raid and he was saved by a Mandalorian soldier.

The Mandalorian finale, “Chapter 8: Redemption”, had no shortage of moments that were explicitly designed to please those in the know, but it delivered them in a way that didn’t compromise the story it wanted to tell or the groundwork laid by previous episodes in the season. After getting the grate open, Mando pressures the trio to leave him behind to protect The Child as a flame trooper burns his way into the bar. Obviously, this show can’t compete with the scale of the set pieces in any of the movies. After the end of the last episode, in which Kuiil was killed by two bike scout troopers and saw the two take The Child, we pick up with the two troopers heading back to town to return it to Moff Gideon, but wait on the edge of town for confirmation to come in as Gideon has killed many of his own men, as well as a trooper for interrupting him. This review of Minecraft Dungeons is based on the Xbox One version, played through the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Reeling from all of those revelations, Mando, Cara, Greef, IG, and Baby Yoda find a large tunnel containing a lava river that will direct them to freedom. [Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers through the Season 1 finale of The Mandalorian, “Chapter 8: Redemption.”]. Mando pulls a gun on him and explains that “No living thing” has seen him without his helmet in years. While some fans are off debating Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, many are tuning in to Disney+ for the highly-anticipated finale to the first season of The Mandalorian, which picks up from the heartbreaking cliffhanger of the penultimate episode. You can check out our thoughts on the previous episode by clicking these words . Everyone knew that wouldn’t turn out well for the Mandalorians and the one remaining in their hideout, the Armorer, explains that the Empire came and attempted to wipe them out.

The troopers refuse and hold the droid at gunpoint, who defuses the two with ease and takes The Child back, jumps on a bike and heads into town. Loved the episode otherwise! It’s obvious something bad happened here and, though he doesn’t say it, we know it’s Mando’s fault. Obviously, it was a huge moment, but Waititi handled it in a very matter of fact, understated way, which gave the whole thing that much more resonance. Once they find the old hideout, the group sees a bunch of abandoned Mandalorian armor. As IG gets to work on an escape (through the sewers, which felt very much like an “into the garbage chute, flyboy” call back) Mando tells Cara he thinks he’s done for. As the episode comes to a close we find out this ancient, powerful, Mandalorian weapon is back in play, just as Din Djarin, the actual name of the main character we’ve called “The Mandalorian,” sets off on a new quest. We flash back to Mando’s memory from his childhood as his parents race to protect him from invading droids and as one is about to kill him in his hiding place, he is rescued by a squadron of Mandalorians, with one flying off with him to bring him into their convert. And the farewell to IG-11 was just lovely. Much like Din was raised as a Mandalorian, he now must either raise this foundling as a Mandalorian or return him to his own people. Making the moment even more powerful is that IG says he can save Mando, but he has to take off his helmet. Each time they hit him, I felt like I was being hit.

Yet another joyous, rousing action scene that resulted in the TIE blowing up and the day saved once more. “This is the way,” the Armorer replies, all but setting up the plot for The Mandalorian season two. Greef is a “disgraced magistrate”. It’s piloted by what looked like a basic R2-unit astromech droid but it was actually an R2-unite astromech droid...with arms and legs. If I had to guess, though, I’d say not until the fall, just so it can be a big part of Star Wars Celebration in late August. Besides the fact that it looked very poor from the VFX side, it’s one of my biggest fears about Star Wars going ahead. Others have pointed out to me that what Gideon is using is actually a Darksaber, a weapon used by the Mandalorian themselves, which was introduced in the Filoni-run Clone Wars series (which I’ve never seen). But that happens pretty early in the episode, and there are several narrow escapes to follow that require other methods of problem-solving, from IG-11 finally using its self-destruct system to Mando with the jetpack and explosive charges. Watching basically R2-D2 meets a Battle Droid steering a boat on a river of lava was just a perfectly weird, what the fuck Star Wars moment. I hope she’s in Season 2. The Mandalorian season finale recap: Mando and Moff Gideon face off ... There’s been an air of mystery regarding Mandalorians but this episode confirms a fundamental element of the people. Mando attaches his jetpack to his back and flies up to use his grappling hook to latch onto the ship, and after being nearly shaken off by Gideon, he successfully attaches a thermal detonator to one of its wings, bringing the ship down.

But as they near the exit to the tunnels, and subsequent freedom, Mando sees a squad of troopers on his heat vision flanking the exit. This article was updated after publication to make a few corrections. The Disney+ show is called The Mandalorian. As movie/TV franchise crossovers go, it was an effectively subtle one. And, of course, there’s Gideon realizing he’s about to be in the middle of an explosion.

It’s a one-of-a-kind, black-bladed saber that, after Tarre’s death, was kept protected by the Jedi until a group of his ancestors challenged the Jedi and liberated it. In The Mandalorian’s season one finale, called “Redemption,” we learn that Gideon was one of the Imperial leaders who led the Empire’s siege on Mandalore. They discuss the weird creature they just picked up, how evil the Moff is, and show how poor they are at aiming blasters. But for now, Mando is essentially the last member of his creed. That Mandalorian must have raised him as his own and, years later, Din pledged himself to the Mandalorian life.

Realizing this, if Mando says that the child will be safe with him, IG can default to his factory programming and self-destruct rather than be captured, which he does after a touching goodbye. You see what I was saying about the right kind of fan service? We want to hear from you! Using the thermal vision in his helmet, Mando spots a platoon of stormtroopers flanking the mouth of the tunnel, so IG runs the numbers and determines that there is no scenario in which he survives and the child remains safe. Something else to find out about next season.

While they all plan to try and shoot their way out, IG returns The Child to Cara and the jetpack to Mando as it plans on self-destructing, with his manufacturer’s protocol requiring it not be captured, but it reveals it is also doing it to protect the group and The Child. Instead, she is staying there and trying to salvage what remains. It’s just too bad he couldn’t straighten his TIE fighter afterwards. IG offers to stay back with Mando as the rest make their way into the sewer to find the other Mandalorians, planning to show a metal signet from Djarin to prove they are allies. “You expect me to search the galaxy for the home of this creature and deliver it to a race of enemy sorcerers?” Mando asks. He and Baby Yoda are now a clan of two, the Mudhorn clan. Lastly, thanks so much for taking the journey of The Mandalorian season one with me.
