The V8 Supercars soon switched their round to the new venue and so began a gradual decline at Lakeside.

Since 1966 it’s been hosting Australian touring cars, GT races, the Australian Superbike Championship and much more, and has been the setting for many historic moments in Australian motorsport.

With over 500 entries each year, the event showcases an impressive range of vehicles and eras, with the racing being loud, raw and exciting.

Gradually over 1959 and into 1960 the work continued until the track received its bitumen layer. The Baskerville Historics are run by the Hobart Sporting Car Club and the MG Car Club of Tasmania and offer events for cars and bikes as well as rallycross demonstrations and more.
