In fact, I'm pretty sure it's the same circuit, the reissue just has plexi panels.
Well, I have a 50w JCM800 to compare to the 1987x and though the 87x does get me a bit more volume before breakup...it is not as much as I had hoped for. One thing to point out here is that on the 1987x Marshall didn't give you a plexi circuit inside. Once properly biased this amp roars in its own right. The 1987x is PCB as well.. Talk with your fellow tone freaks on the web's liveliest (and friendliest!) What would you say about an 80's JMP? And I wanted to see if the amp was close enough to open up my search. The 1987X TM delivers the perfect balance of classic Marshall overdrive and glistening clean tones. I'm glad I did. The only person that needs to worry about the PCB in your amp is your tech. But the reason I started the thread was because they seem to be a couple hundred bucks more used then what Im seeing some JMPs go for. JMP's came in both master and non-master volume circuit types. As I said, they're both good choices. Previous Next. I find it hard to dial in my tone on a JCM 800 and 900, but when I realized that a JTM 45 is basically a Fender Bassman with KT66 or EL34 tubes, I decided to give Marshall another chance. I really, really like my 1987xl reissue. They're good (the sleeper is the JMP 50 watt bass amp (#1986), as it's only a couple of components different from a 1987, but a load cheaper). If you want a '70-'74 type metal panel lead amp, replace the 0.022uF cap that sits diagonally at C15/C16 with a 0.0022uf cap. There's page after page of great reviews of it over at HC.
