Truthfully, I think the inexplicable quality is the best thing of all the many things of which this deceptively sparse tale comprises. Alan Dean Foster does very close justice to one of my favorite horror films, John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982). This could be quite a versatile resource to use, exploring the identity of The Thing, the impact it had on the community it landed in, and the after effects of its presence there.
A thing brings four strangers together on an adventure. My little stint of trying out novelizations comes to an end with The Thing, a treatment of my favorite movie of all time. A remake of the 1950 movie. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes. In every chapter their is a problem and it is intersecting to see how they solve it. Though in certain scenes it is better than the film in at least it explains the fate of certain characters not clarified in the film. Satirical science fiction fun.

And it's been a while since I've read Bill Lancaster's screenplay, but as I got to portions of the book that deviated from the film, I began to remember the script, so it kinda ruined the suspense for me. But the story is not about what The Thing symbolizes; rather, it’s about the unrelenting acknowledgment that such a threat exists and, whether its form is psychological or physical, is what humans should be afraid of. An enjoyable read, this book explores friendship, the 'unknown', society and modern media culture. When the thing leaves they realise it created a friendship between them.
