The food was delicious, the service from our waiter was great, the host staff was horrible. It was great.

Sushi is pure, clean food with simple, thoughtful and minimal intervention and the materials and design principle at UMI reflect this philosophy. The ambiance/vibe was so much better there and way more comfortable for a party of 4. The only complaint was that the rock shrimp was too salty (rehydrated mushroom garnish were almost inedibly salty), and oddly enough a touch too spicy, but the crunch and sauce viscosity were right. Food was amazing and the waiters and waitresses were even better. Food was amazing as usual. Did I mention there is unparalleled service at UMI? It was great. From the food, to the decor to the service. We finally sat down around 9:15. We were told multiple times that we were under an hour and a half time restriction; however no one came to our table within the first fifteen minutes. Also, the Shrimp Tempura Appetizer is to die for.

Additionally, since there is overlap on the menu of items you can find at lower-priced sushi restaurants, I recommend ordering the more unusual items, such as the wagyu and fatty tuna sushi, as opposed to spicy tuna and chicken teriyaki. Ultimately, I just miss being able to stroll in at any point during opening hours to enjoy a few cocktails, sushi rolls, and refined ambiance.
